If you need to send flowers to the church or arrange decorations for the funeral, but are unsure what to choose, then you have come to the right place. We have written this post to make it easier for you to choose between flower bouquets and decorations for the funeral.
Flowers play a big role at funerals and serve several different purposes. Depending on your role at the funeral, there are several different types of bouquets and decorations to consider, and it can be a big mouthful to figure out which flowers to send or bring to the funeral. With this post, we will try to make it easier for you to choose between bouquets, decorations and embellishments.
At Flora Nordica we have extensive experience in making the last farewell a beautiful funeral. If you need help or have any special requests, please feel free to call us on: 2624 9990

What is your role to the deceased?
Your relationship to the deceased and your role in the funeral can give you some idea of what types of flowers and arrangements you should look at. We have compiled the categories that are relevant for you as an arranger of decorations in the church, a close relative attending the funeral, or a friend who simply wants to send their sympathy and condolences to the relatives.
Organizer of ornaments and decorations
If you have the role of providing decorations in the church and possibly for the coffin, there are the following categories you should look at:
- Coffin ornaments or coffin decorations that are placed on top of the coffin over the heart of the deceased. The decorations are available in several different sizes that cover anything from 1/4 to the entire surface of the coffin.
- Bier decorations are intended to be placed on the floor around the coffin and are placed on the wreath-laying area or gravesite when the ceremony is over.
- Pew rows are church decorations in the form of simple bouquets that are placed at the end of the pews along the church floor. Call us if you would like a quote.
Attending the funeral
As a relative and participant in the ceremony, the flower arrangement is a nice way to say goodbye. Many people choose to add a ribbon with text for the deceased. The ribbon is available for the following bouquets:
- Flower wreaths are circular arrangements that are available in several different sizes with different color themes.
- Flower hearts are beautiful decorations with a loving message, available as both open hearts (like a heart-shaped wreath) or whole hearts.
- Bier bouquets which function as bier decorations but are smaller in size and therefore also cheaper. These are also placed in front of the coffin for the ceremony and afterwards at the gravesite.
As an attendee at the funeral, you can also choose to purchase farewell roses, also known as throw roses, in either white or red in the number of your choice.
Friend or acquaintance of relatives
If you are a friend or acquaintance of the deceased's relatives and would like to show your compassion and sympathy, you can choose to send floral decorations to the church even if you are not attending. We deliver to a large number of churches in North Zealand.
You can also choose to show your sympathy and compassion with a condolence bouquet , which is available in many different sizes and at any price point. The condolence bouquet is often white or light in color and is a beautiful way to show care for someone you know who has lost someone.
Text for the flower sheaf
The text on the ribbon for the funeral bouquet or decoration is a public final greeting intended for the deceased and their relatives. It can be difficult to put into words your feelings for the deceased, and choose the text that should be on the ribbon. Therefore, you can find some inspiration for the text on the ribbon below:
- A final greeting
- A final goodbye
- Thank you for everything.
- Sleep well.
- Hidden in the heart, never forgotten
- Rest in peace
- Have a good trip
- Thanks for all the good times
- Loved & missed
...or whatever is right for you.
When choosing text for the funeral bouquet, flower heart, flower wreath, or funeral decoration, you should know that there are typically two ribbons. On each ribbon, you can write two lines (with approximately 6 words per line, depending on the length of the word/name).
On one ribbon, write a greeting. On the other ribbon, write who it is from.

Types of flowers for funerals
Below you can see examples of flowers, church decorations and funeral decorations. We have a large selection of sizes and price levels within each category.
Casket ornaments and coffin decorations
Flora Nordica coffin ornament / coffin decoration is designed with a center flower over the deceased's heart. The coffin ornament is placed on the coffin lid. The coffin ornament comes in four different sizes: small, 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, 1/1.
Flower wreaths
Wreaths are decorated with flowers and greenery. They are made so that they can lie on the floor or on the ground without damaging the flowers, while also highlighting all the beautiful details in the bouquet. Wreaths are typically placed in front of the casket before the ceremony begins. Flower wreaths are also made for urn placement. The wreaths are available in different sizes and prices.
We have a selection of flower wreaths in different color shades to suit the season. If you have special requests for the wreath, please feel free to call and ask about the options.

Flower heart
The flower heart is designed like a wreath, only in the shape of a heart. Flower hearts are available both as a whole heart and as a heart wreath, where there is a hole in the middle. Flower hearts are also made for urn placement.

Bier bouquets
Bier bouquets are designed to lie on the floor or ground without damaging the flowers, while still highlighting all the beautiful details of the bouquet. The bouquets are typically placed in front of the casket before the ceremony begins.
Stretcher decorations
A stretcher decoration is a good alternative to a stretcher bouquet if you want a larger floral greeting. A stretcher decoration looks a bit like a stretcher bouquet, but takes up more space and is taller.
Farewell rose
Farewell roses can be brought to the funeral or memorial service and placed on the coffin after the ceremony. Some choose white or red roses, but many also choose a rose in a color that appears in the coffin decoration.
Flowers by the benches
In the church and chapel there are often small vases at the front of the rows of benches. It can be beautiful to put some stems in here. Depending on which flowers and how many, the prices are typically DKK 35 per row.

Condolence bouquet
A condolence bouquet is given to someone you love who has lost someone. A condolence bouquet is typically in white and light colors.
We hope this post has helped you get a better overview of the options.
